Privacy policy
Last updated 8 June 2026. This is a starting template — have it reviewed before relying on it.
This policy explains what data SME Brief ("we") collects, why, and your rights under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. SME Brief is published by Etopia.
What we collect
- Newsletter: if you subscribe, we store the email address you give us, to send you the newsletter. Nothing more.
- Analytics: we use Google Tag Manager to load analytics (such as Google Analytics) so we can see which articles are read. These analytics cookies are set only after you accept via our cookie banner — until then they are switched off by default using Google Consent Mode.
- Advertising: we display ads via Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies to serve ads based on prior visits to this and other sites. See Google's advertising policies for detail and opt-outs.
- Server logs: standard request logs (IP, user agent, timestamp) kept briefly for security and diagnostics.
Legal basis
We rely on your consent for newsletter sign-up and non-essential cookies, and on legitimate interests for basic security logging and aggregate analytics.
Cookies
Essential cookies keep the site working. Non-essential cookies (advertising and analytics) are only set after you accept them via our cookie banner. Until you accept, they stay switched off by default (Google Consent Mode), and you can change your choice whenever you like.
Your rights
You can ask us to access, correct or delete your data, or to stop processing it. Email privacy@smebrief.co.uk. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
Third parties
We share data only with the services that run the site (our email provider, analytics, and Google for advertising). We don't sell your personal data.
Changes
We'll update this page when our practices change and revise the date above.
